SERVE HOUSTON deploys teams of five SERVE HOUSTON AmeriCorps Members to project sites across Houston to provide direct service to community members by promoting healthy, equitable futures for all. Members engage vulnerable populations in living healthier lives by providing outreach, training, and hands-on activities on nutrition, wellness practices, social and physical fitness, and other activities to directly benefit our community's health and wellbeing. SERVE HOUSTON is recruiting a diverse group of individuals from across Houston and providing them with the opportunity to learn, lead and make an IMpact through service. Members will serve at one of ten nonprofit project sites in the Houston area. SERVE HOUSTON is the new AmeriCorps Program powered by Volunteer Houston (VH), a program of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM).

Eligibility Requirements:
2022 Project Sites:
Meals on Wheels: Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston and Galveston County program provides home-delivered meals to approximately 4,900 homebound seniors and disabled adults in five counties – Harris, Galveston, Montgomery, Liberty, and Chambers. The program also delivers weekend meals and a week’s worth of breakfast to about a quarter of our most frail and isolated clients. This nutritional support helps people stay independent and in their own homes.
Refugee Services: Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston’s Refugee Services department, in conjunction with the U.S. State Department and Episcopal Migration Ministries, resettles legal refugees fleeing their homeland in fear of political, social, or religious persecution. IM helps refugees from around the world make new lives in America. Over 90% of the clients we serve are self-sufficient, productive members of the community within 6 months.
Santa Maria Hostel : Santa Maria Hostel empowers women and their families to lead healthy, successful, productive, and self-fulfilling lives.
The Tejano Center : Tejano Center for Community Concerns develops education, social, health, and community institutions that empower families to transform their lives.
Avondale House : Avondale House provides individuals with autism the resources, education, and training to develop to their fullest potential.
L.I.F.E. Houston : L.I.F.E. Houston provides emergency nourishment for hungry babies and provides education about proper infant nutrition to families in need.
Houston Food Bank : Houston Food Bank's mission is "Food for better lives". Around 1 million people in the 18 southeast Texas counties served by Houston Food Bank are considered food insecure, meaning they lack consistent access to enough nutritious food to fuel a healthy life. In order to address this issue, the Houston Food Bank distributes food and other essentials to those in need through a network of more than 1,600 community partners. In addition, we also provide programs and services aimed at helping families achieve long-term stability including nutrition education, job training, health management, and help in securing state-funded assistance.
Houston ToolBank : The Houston Community ToolBank is a nonprofit tool lending program that provides fellow not-for-profit organizations (and disaster volunteers) with year-round access to an inventory of tools for use in volunteer projects and facility and environmental maintenance. We provide tools to enhance the charitable sector’s capacity to serve, scale, and facilitate hands-on volunteerism in the greater Houston area.
Kids’ Meals : Kids’ Meals helps to end childhood hunger in Houston by delivering free healthy meals, year-round to the doorsteps of Houston’s hungriest preschool-aged children and through collaboration provide their families with resources to end the cycle of poverty.
Precinct2gether : Precinct2gether is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the residents of Harris County Precinct 2. Precinct2gether builds partnerships and develops resources that support multi-generational programs that engage, educate, and empower our residents. Our Members will serve the community through our veteran's program.
