Overview

Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) was established to ensure unconditionally equitable and dignified access to high-quality health care for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in greater Boston. We care for more than 10,000 homeless individuals each year through more than 30 locations, offering comprehensive health care from preventive dental care to cancer treatment. Our clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health professionals work to support vulnerable, resilient community members.

Are you interested in working with underserved populations? BHCHP is looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who will provide comprehensive primary, episodic and/or recuperative care at our primary care clinic and respite care facility. This is a collaborative practice where medical, behavioral health, and case management staff work together to meet the various needs of patients during their stay.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, high quality primary or episodic care at various clinical sites staffed by BHCHP; work as part of a multidisciplinary team in caring for patients
• May work at shelter-based clinics, hospital-based clinics, respite facilities, or at one of our primary care clinics
• Elicit an appropriate history, perform physical examinations, order diagnostic studies, interpret results and initiate therapy in accordance with BHCHP guidelines for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners
• Refer patients as appropriate to medical specialists, hospital admission, recuperative care and detox facilities; provide information for continuity of care and educate patients on health promotion and disease prevention
• Participate in a collaborative relationship with BHCHP physicians according to Massachusetts regulations
• Maintain adequate, up-to-date medical records in a timely manner using BHCHP guidelines (problem lists, medication lists, etc.)
• Maintain active DPH, DEA and professional licenses, hospital privileges, credentialing and CPR training

Qualifications

• Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• Registered or eligible with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency
• At least one year of NP/PA experience required
• Experience with underserved populations, mentally ill, homeless and/or persons with substance use disorders preferred
• Life support training certification (e.g., CPR, BLS, ACLS) from a course with hands-on, in-person component
• Bilingual proficiency preferred

Compensation

• The compensation is $77.00 per hour.
